Customers and retailers are reporting a significant shortage of milk cartons at a controlled price in supermarkets.

According to a report today (Tuesday) on the program "The Color of Money" on the B network, the milk shelves in many supermarkets remain empty or half-empty, and some supermarkets are even limiting the purchase of milk per customer.

One retailer who spoke to 'Kan News' said that he receives one carton of milk per pallet - instead of the usual 30. According to him, within five minutes there is not a single carton of milk left. "They are snatched before they even reach the shelves," he said.

Another retailer, one of the largest in the country, told Kan News that this is a situation that has been going on for several days - and that it is currently unclear how long this shortage will last.

Another retailer said he simply doesn't get any explanations for the shortage. He says he gets an allocation and has to settle for the answer, "It's what's available."

Dairy industry sources explained that the reason for the shortage stems from a combination of several factors: First, a malfunction at one of Tnuva's production facilities. Another reason - many more people are in the country these days and demand is greater. In addition, each year, the yield of cows in the summer is smaller.

Tnuva, the largest milk producer in Israel, responded to The Color of Money's request: "We prefer not to comment on the issue."
