Protest against the arrest of the ultra-Orthodox draft refuser: The Committee for the Salvation of the World of Torah found a new method for protesting during the days of Passover, if yeshiva student Eliyahu Cohen remains imprisoned in Prison 4 during the holiday.
In an ad published today by the committee in the newspaper "Hapeles," the public is asked to organize protest convoys on the country's roads, with vehicles moving slowly to stop traffic. The vehicles that join the convoys will wave protest signs that will be distributed to anyone who asks.
The ad gave precise instructions: "Since the roads are busy these days anyway, and especially in light of the protests at intersections, you should be prepared to stay in your vehicle for a long time. Therefore, you should set off with a full tank of gas, and also stock up on drinks and food in quantities sufficient for long hours on the roads.".
And what about canceling the Torah on the holiday? The committee also thought about that: "It is recommended to take textbooks so that the vehicle occupants can utilize their time and not be bothered by standing in traffic.".
The committee emphasizes that the law must be followed and that the police must not be given any pretext to prevent the demonstration. "It should be remembered that every citizen is entitled to move freely and as he pleases on the country's roads." However, it should be remembered that on highways there is a minimum speed limit of 55 km/h. Parts of the roads that the demonstrators will seek to block are defined as highways, such as the section between the Kibbutz Galuyot interchange and the Sha'ar Hagai interchange on Highway 1.
The committee recommends that demonstrators equip themselves with recording and filming devices to document police violence, if any.
The slogan of the demonstrations is: "If a prisoner doesn't have a holiday, everyone doesn't have a holiday," and therefore the protesters will try to disrupt the holiday atmosphere in various ways, one of which is, as mentioned, blocking the roads, which are already busy and congested.
