Against the Rabbis of the Kirov: MK Merav Michaeli, the Labor Party chairman, has once again submitted the bill that prohibits rabbis from speaking at IDF bases and in the police - except for military rabbis and rabbis of the Israel Police. The explanatory notes to the bill state: "The bill is intended to prevent a situation in which religious figures who are not members of the military or police and are not part of the religious services of the IDF or the police come to IDF bases or police facilities to hold religious ceremonies, prayers or various 'awakening' campaigns, to preach repentance or to observe religious commandments, without the approval of the heads of the military and police." The explanatory notes to the bill also state: "In the IDF and the police, members of various religions and secularists serve, and any ceremony or event may involve religious coercion. Therefore, the involvement of the senior levels of command in the military and the police is required." The bill was submitted in previous Knessets by Nitzan Horwitz of Meretz and a group of other MKs.
