Against the backdrop of the murderous attack in Jerusalem: Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai visited the Herzliya Hebrew Gymnasium high school in Tel Aviv last Sunday, and encountered a difficult question during a meeting he held with the students. According to a report by Itai Shikman in Kan News, one of the students asked Huldai: "What is the municipality's policy regarding the lighting of the city hall? Who decides to light the building with flags? For example, after the explosion in Lebanon, they lit the Lebanese flag. Did they consider lighting the building with the Israeli flag after the attacks over the weekend? The question: Who in the municipality makes the decision?" Huldai sounded stammering in his response: "I don't have a good answer to give you. The city hall is lit for certain events that happen by surprise, not regular events. When some event happens that is bombastic for the public and someone comes and suggests it, we consider. Discretion. Are we always right? No. Therefore, I don't have a good answer." Later, Huldai was asked by the student: "Will we soon see the Israeli flag as well?" To which the mayor replied: "The Israeli flag is raised from time to time... and it has been many times, not just once, many times." In the past, the city hall was indeed illuminated in the colors of the Israeli flag several times, such as after the disaster on Mount Meron. The Tel Aviv municipality stated: "The municipality has illuminated the city hall with the Israeli flag many times after terrorist attacks, and shares the deep sorrow of the families of the victims of the terrible terrorist attack in Jerusalem.".
