NASA launched a special spacecraft from California today (Wednesday), which is designed to collide with an asteroid in order to deflect it from its orbit. This is an experiment by the space agency designed to test a defense system to deal with the threat of asteroids that threaten to hit Earth. There is no reason to get stressed: NASA clarifies that at the moment no asteroid is making its way towards Earth. The spacecraft's journey will last about a year and it is supposed to collide with an asteroid that is about 160 meters in diameter and push it out of its orbit. Itay Nevo, editor-in-chief and space correspondent, Davidson Institute, the educational arm of the Weizmann Institute of Science, told Kalman Libeskind and Assaf Lieberman on the Kalman-Lieberman program on Channel 2 about the NASA experiment, saying that "in about a year, the spacecraft will collide with a not-so-large asteroid, and will try to change its orbit. Its impact on the country could destroy a city.".
