The Knesset this morning (Wednesday) finally approved, by a majority of 60 in favor and 54 against, the law according to which four Knesset members will be able to split from their faction - even if they do not constitute a third of the faction.

The approved law is intended to try to get four Likud members to defect to the coalition instead of four Knesset members from the Ra'am party.

The law passed after members of the Joint List did not take part in the vote. MKs Amichai Shikli from the Right and Eli Avidar from Yisrael Beiteinu also did not take part.

The amendment goes against the situation that has been customary until now, in which a split of at least one-third of a faction is required in order for sanctions to not be imposed on the resigning MKs. One of the sanctions is preventing those MKs from integrating into an existing party and requiring them to establish a new party in order to compete in the next elections.

Yesterday, MK Avidar sought to shelve the proposal, which he called the "Defectors' Law," and expressed his opposition to the law because it "continues and reinforces a rotten political culture, which the Change Bloc came to change.".

In addition, the expansion of the Norwegian law and the postponement of the budget approval date were approved.
