Although during the entire "holiday lockdown" large parts of the Haredi public violated the guidelines, Shas Chairman Minister Aryeh Deri claims that they became green thanks to "strict adherence to the guidelines.".

Always happy: There are new flavors you shouldn't miss

This morning (Wednesday) at a Shas faction meeting held in the Knesset - Deri said: "Large parts of the general media have been inciting against the Haredi sector for months, especially during the entire holiday period, on the grounds that the Haredi are violating the guidelines and spreading the virus. The Haredi have gone through a difficult period of closures and, above all, extremely severe attacks.

""This week the cities in the Haredi sector are green, but in most of the general media, there is silence. No mention of this, suddenly the Haredi cities have become transparent.".

""Unfortunately, after months of severe attacks against the Haredi, there is almost no reference, certainly not a kind word, to the observance of the strict guidelines of the Haredi public, who live in the most difficult and crowded conditions of all.".

According to him, "All the green Haredi cities are due to the majority of the Haredi sector following the guidelines and they deserve commendation today.".

Deri's words do not correspond to the reality that prevailed throughout the days of the lockdown in ultra-Orthodox cities - and even after it, when many blatantly violated all the guidelines, including opening synagogues, Torah studies, not wearing masks, participating in kiddush, opening stores, and more.

However, many - including media people - do wonder what caused the drastic decrease in morbidity, even among the ultra-Orthodox public.
