Deputy Minister of Education Meir Porush met with Minister Ze'ev Elkin, who heads the special committee that is trying to formulate a plan that will allow flights to Uman ahead of Rosh Hashanah - and suggested that he fly to Uman to closely monitor the implementation of the plan.
Porush told Elkin: "I am ready to take responsibility and immediately fly to Uman to closely ensure that the outline is implemented.".
Meanwhile, hundreds of Breslov Hasidim demonstrated this evening at the entrance to Beit Shemesh in protest of their inability to enter Ukraine, and demanding a plan to regulate flights to Uman. Other demonstrators protested near the Ben Gurion Airport and near the home of the head of the fight against the coronavirus, Prof. Roni Gamzo, in Givatayim.
According to a report on Channel 12, senior officials at the Health Ministry said in response to pressure from the Breslav secretariat: "There will be no outline and we will not agree to their attempt to force us to agree to the event.".
Professor Roni Gamzo held a briefing for the Haredi media earlier today, saying that the decision on the flights to Uman "is the end of the story and it is not right to do this.".
Regarding the letter he sent to the President of Ukraine, in which he urged him to close the country's gates to the Breslov Hasidim, Gamzu said: "I carry a heavy responsibility for managing the Corona event on my back. I conveyed a professional's message to the Ukrainian government and I stand behind it. I am very sorry if I offended anyone.".
