Deputy Minister Uri Maklev said this morning (Monday), in a meeting held by United Torah Judaism Knesset members with the Prime Minister, that the Haredi public has been most affected by the coronavirus.

""Unfortunately, there is no transparency and the public does not know what is happening. There are doubts about the lockdown itself. The system is not doing what is needed. It is not turning to the millions and the public is only being asked to contribute their share," said Maklev. "The lockdown in Bnei Brak has been burned into the public as if the coronavirus is only in the ultra-Orthodox community. The lockdown is offensive. Special education schools have been closed. The policeman on the edge does whatever he wants. Just yesterday we saw MK Eichler being detained by a policeman. If a member of Knesset is detained, what happens to a citizen who needs to go out for essential work?" Maklev added: "The ultra-Orthodox community has been damaged the most by the coronavirus. Employers are allowing themselves not to bring back ultra-Orthodox workers from the quarantine. You can see this in the data. It harms the social, economic and image levels. People are standing in line and not receiving service because they are ultra-Orthodox and fear that they are from the quarantine areas, even though this is not true." Deputy Minister Maklev addressed the Prime Minister: "Our public supported you, cherished your kindness and did not accept the attacks in the media against you. But now we have lost that, and are even accused of being in partnership with you. The Haredi public has a long memory and now expects your action and intervention, actions and not words.".
