Fire and Rescue Commander in the Northern District, Capt. Nizar Fares, signed today (Wednesday) an exceptional permit to hold the lighting of the candles at the Rashbi celebration in Meron - in which, according to estimates, about half a million people are expected to participate.
The exceptional approval was given at the end of a situation assessment during which the Fire and Rescue Service Commander in the Northern District was presented with the exceptional weather data, wind directions, and the deployment of forces in Operation Mironek.
The exceptional approval is given for events approved by the Fire Safety Section and secured by firefighters, as determined by the Israel Fire and Rescue Service.
Fars demands that bonfires be limited to a height of one and a half meters and a diameter of up to three meters, and lighting a bonfire in forests and groves is prohibited, even in designated places.
In addition, restrictions were imposed to increase the distances between the fires and risk factors such as forests, residential buildings, gas and fuel facilities, power lines, and more.
Due to the extreme weather, heat and heavy rain, Nahal Darga will be closed from Wednesday, May 22nd to Friday, May 24th, inclusive.
Also closed these days will be the Qumran River for surfers, the Og River, and the Euphrates River.
All surfing routes in the Judean Desert rivers will also be closed. Meanwhile, Carmel Park and the hiking trails in Carmel will be closed to travelers from Wednesday, May 22, 2019, to Friday, May 24, 2019 [inclusive].
