Will WhatsApp allow its users to know your exact location?
Through a new feature added to the application, any user will be able to allow a friend or family member to see in real time where they are traveling or going, as reported on the website 'The Marker'.
According to the report, when a user chooses to add their location while chatting with a friend or group, they will be presented with an additional tab - "Share Live Location" - and selecting the option will allow the other party to track their every move in real time. The tab will also allow the location sender to choose how long the feature will be active with the other party (from a few minutes to several hours), and if they choose to do so - to also stop the tracking at any given moment.
A post on WhatsApp's blog says the new feature is end-to-end encrypted, like all other conversations conducted through the instant messaging app. This means that only the sender can decide who sees their location, and for how long their contacts will be exposed to their exact live location.
WhatsApp currently has 1.3 billion monthly users, and according to Facebook - which owns the application - about 1 billion daily users send about 55 billion messages through it every day.
