Do not try this at home: At an event held by the Duvdevan unit, the unit's new warrior knife was unveiled, developed in recent months by the ISAK company together with the unit's fighters, the Israel Defense website reports.
Erez Rivlin, owner of ISAK, presented the prototype of the warrior's knife: The metal in the knife is an advanced N690Co stainless steel alloy containing about 18% chromium, and additional metals such as cobalt, vanadium and molybdenum. The steel is 6 mm thick and the total weight of the knife is about 330 grams, about a third less than the first knife developed by ISAK and currently used by the IDF fighters. The knife handle is made of a micrate material made from epoxy and canvas that prevents slipping while maintaining lightness and strength. The knife is hardened to a level of about 60 on the Rockwell scale, where strength and hardness reach an ultimate balance for the needs of a warrior. A combination of strength as a device with high leverage and hardness sufficient to maintain the blade's edge for cutting without sharpening for a long time. The knife's blade shape, called "American Tanto," gives the knife enhanced edge strength.
Rivlin gave the knife with the first serial number to retired Major General Uri Barlev, founder and founder of the "Duvdevan" unit.
The head of the IDF's Krav Maga division, Danny Netzer, practiced with the participants how to respond in the event of an attack with a knife. Guy Refaeli, a civilian from a special unit specializing in knife fights, also practiced several situations and short-range reactions, and emphasized the importance of awareness of the lethal power of a knife. Refaeli cited a study conducted by the FBI that the mortality rate from firearms is 1 in 10, while the mortality rate from a knife attack is 3 in 10. The risk of a knife attack requires focus and intensive training by IDF fighters. According to him, using a knife requires learning how to defend, but learning how to attack with a knife is what leads to the defense against an attacker armed with a knife improving, with knowledge of the attack tactics.
The ISAK Knife project began in 2011 with the design and production of the knife used by the IDF fighters. The company, located in Hod Hasharon, manufactures knives from various steels, and develops additional models for the security and civilian sectors.
