The Beer Sheva police station opened an investigation on May 4th, following a dangerous driving incident that occurred on Rabbi Avigdor HaMeiri Street in Beer Sheva, during the Chabad Lag BaOmer procession - at a time when many citizens were marching in the area and the street was closed to vehicle traffic.

The investigation revealed that the defendant, a 32-year-old resident of Arara in the Negev, was driving while intoxicated, did not obey the instructions of the police officers and volunteers who were at the scene, accelerated toward pedestrians and continued to drive recklessly, risking human life.

During his journey, he hit several pedestrians and a guardrail, until he stopped the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

Police officers from the Beer Sheva station and soldiers from the Sahar Brigade and Border Guard who were called to the scene quickly worked to locate and arrest him, and after a foot and mounted pursuit, he was arrested by soldiers from the Sahar Brigade.

A breathalyzer test conducted on the defendant found that he was driving under the influence of alcohol, with a blood alcohol concentration of 534 micrograms per liter of exhaled air measured in his body.

As a result of the incident, several pedestrians were slightly injured, according to medical officials, and property damage was caused.

Today, upon completion of the investigation, the prosecution unit in the Negev Region branch filed an indictment against him, along with a request to continue his detention until the end of the proceedings.
