Due to the position presented by the Knesset Counsel, Attorney Sagit Afik, the Knesset plenum will be required to vote within a week on the state budget and the first reading of the Arrangements Laws.

This vote on first reading is a necessary condition for the government to be able to pass a budget by the end of March.

According to a report on Channel 12, the reason for the political impasse is that legal advice insists that there be a gap of at least two months between the first reading and the second and third readings. The government is determined to pass the budget within a week on first reading, knowing that if they fail to pass the budget by March, the Knesset will dissolve and we will go to elections.

The complex situation places the ultra-Orthodox parties in a position of no choice: if they vote in favor on the first reading, the budget will pass without the conscription law - and the coalition will receive an additional two months of "breathing space.".

If they vote against, it will lead to the overthrow of the government.

Sources in the ultra-Orthodox parties told Channel 12 that they asked the coalition to split the votes on the Arrangements Law and the budget. "We tend to vote in favor of the Arrangements Law, as it requires time for discussion in the Knesset. We will vote on the budget itself later, after the conscription law is approved.".
