A number of anti-Israel organizations filed an official complaint today (Wednesday) with the Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Division of the Canadian Ministry of Justice against Ehud Olmert and Tzipi Livni.

The move by the organizations - the Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF), the Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights (CLAIHR), and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) - is being made ahead of the arrival of the two Israeli figures for a visit to Toronto.

In the complaint, the organizations attempt to implicate Olmert and Benny in "war crimes and crimes against humanity" during the Gaza War in 2008-2009. Based on these allegations, the organizations demand that the Canadian authorities act in a precedent-setting manner: to open a criminal investigation into the two men's role in the campaign, and even to issue arrest warrants against them.

The appeal relies on sections of Canadian law and international law in an attempt to exert legal pressure on Israel.

Olmert himself attacked the IDF's conduct in the "Resurrection" war and claimed in an interview with the British network BBC that what Israel "is doing now in Gaza is very close to a war crime.".

Olmert claimed at the time that this was "a war without a goal – a war without a chance of achieving anything that could save the lives of the hostages.".
