As part of the special American aid package for the war: The Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Maj. Gen. Amir Baram, signed an order today (Thursday) that will allow for significantly accelerating the production of the Iron Dome system.
As part of the deal, Rafael will supply the Ministry of Defense and the IDF with a significant quantity of Iron Dome missiles.
The signing ceremony at the Ministry of Defense was held under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Israel Katz and was attended by the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Brigadier General (res.) Dr. Danny Gold, the American Defense Attaché in Israel, Major General Aaron Drake, Senior Vice President for Marketing and Business Development at Rafael, Brigadier General (res.) Nir Halamish, Head of the Finance Division at the Ministry of Defense, CPA Dekel Cohen, Legal Advisor to the Defense Establishment, Attorney Hila Erlich Amar, and other senior officials.
The signing of the contract was made possible after negotiations led by the head of the 'Wall' department at the Israel Defense Forces, Moshe Fattal, the director of Israeli programs at the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the VP and head of the Air Defense Systems Division at Rafael, Shlomo Toaf.
The $8.7 billion American aid package, approved by the US Congress in April 2024, includes a dedicated $5.2 billion package to strengthen the State of Israel's air defense systems - Iron Dome, David's Sling, and the high-power laser system that is nearing the end of the development process.
The Iron Dome system, which is being developed in Israel and produced in collaboration with the American government, is designed to protect against short- and medium-range rocket and missile threats, as well as against drone threats.
During the war, the system demonstrated impressive performance, with exceptional interception rates, and significant protection of the Israeli home front against missile, rocket, UAV and cruise missile attacks. The system incorporates groundbreaking technologies and is considered one of the most advanced air defense systems in the world.
Rafael is the main developer of the Iron Dome system, in collaboration with the Elta division of Israel Aerospace Industries, the American Raytheon company, and the Emprest company.
The US Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is a key partner in the development and production of Israel's multi-layered systems, including David's Sling and Arrow, and in the production of components for the Iron Dome system.
The strategic cooperation between the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and the 'Wall' Directorate at the Ministry of Defense's Air Defense Command helps ensure the State of Israel's technological advantage in the field of air defense with groundbreaking and operationally proven systems.
