Police Commissioner Danny Levy sent an official letter today (Wednesday) to the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office, in which he expressed strong opposition to the contents of an affidavit submitted yesterday to the Jerusalem District Court in his name and on behalf of the Attorney General, Gali Baharav Mayara.

The affidavit referred to the refusal of the Minister of National Security, MK Itamar Ben-Gvir, to grant the rank of deputy chief of staff to Chief of Staff Rinat Saban, assistant head of the Investigations Division, due to her involvement in the investigations of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In the response submitted to the court, it was claimed that Ben Gvir's actions exceeded his authority and were inconsistent with the principles of proper administration.

The Commissioner, who objected to these statements, wrote in his letter to the Attorney General's Office that his comments on the case concerned only the facts regarding the officer's promotion procedures, and that any statement that leads to a moral or critical interpretation of Minister Ben Gvir is unacceptable to him.

He said that his position was clarified to the Attorney General's Office and representatives of the Legal Advisor to the Government before submitting the response, but his request to submit a separate position was rejected.

""I categorically reject any attempt to attribute to me statements related to interpretation regarding the minister's considerations, and I object to any attempt to attribute to me a statement that there is concern about the minister's failure to comply with a court order," he wrote.

Levy further noted that in his opinion the petitioning officer deserves promotion, and that the process in her case was conducted in an orderly and proper manner.

The decision on promotion, he added, is within the authority of Minister Ben Gvir.
