Yaakov Wider, a member of the Bnei Brak City Council and the chairman of the Likud in the city, launched a sharp attack today (Wednesday) against the phenomenon of repeated visits by senior police officers in Bnei Brak to municipal officials.

Vider notes that sometimes senior police officers also participate in festive dinners, which are presented to the public as "strengthening ties with the community," but, he says, in practice they cause the opposite phenomenon, which destroys public trust in law enforcement systems.

In a scathing post that Vider published on social media, the council member wrote: "People live in Bnei Brak, not a herd that can be controlled through personal connections with the activists who own the herd. Why do the authorities have one standard in Ramat Gan, Givatayim and Ra'anana - and a completely different standard in Bnei Brak?""

Wieder added that the conduct is destroying public trust: "In order for the public to trust law enforcement systems, the close relationship with the activists must be severed. City residents who see this over and over again lose trust, and are convinced that everyone is involved in one big conspiracy.""

Wieder concluded his remarks: "Law enforcement agencies are very important - trust in them must not be destroyed.".
