After a threat was published in the media that if Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir does not accept the decision to take action to occupy the Gaza Strip, due to Hamas' refusal to accept the hostage deal, he is invited to resign, military correspondent Yossi Yehoshua from Yedioth Ahronoth attacked the prime minister.
Yehoshua tweeted on the X network: "If Netanyahu really wants to make such a dramatic and controversial decision in the Israeli public - the occupation of Gaza City and the central camps - he must stand before the nation, clarify the expected price in the lives of the hostages and the soldiers who will fall, and declare that he takes full responsibility, despite the IDF's opposition.".
Yair Netanyahu, the prime minister's son who lives in Miami, did not like the comments and attacked Yehoshua and the Chief of Staff.
Yair responded to him: "If the person who dictated the tweet to you is who we all think, this is a rebellion and an attempted military coup that is suitable for a banana republic in Central America in the 1970s. And it is completely criminal.".
One of the surfers responded to Yair: "We told your father, the Prime Minister, not to appoint him and this generation of concepts, he insisted yes and this is the result. Classic.".
Yair replied: "The one who insisted was Israel Katz...""
And asked again: "In the end, there were only 3 candidates. Couldn't it have been possible to bring in a fourth candidate without a history with foreign foundations?""
And Yair continued to insist: "He also determined the candidates.".
It should be noted that, contrary to his statements, it was previously reported that Netanyahu wanted to appoint Eyal Zamir to the position of Chief of Staff twice - in 2018, when Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman preferred Aviv Kochavi, and in 2022 Netanyahu was furious when, during the transitional government of the Bennett-Lapid government, Defense Minister Benny Gantz did not wait for the elections and appointed Herzi Halevi to the position.
After Halevi resigned following his central role in the October seven-point failure, Zamir was appointed to the position of Chief of Staff.
