75 years after the only successful uprising in the Sobibor concentration camp - a special new exhibition will open at the Jewish Museum in central Moscow about the camp where some 170,000 Jews perished. Only a few managed to survive the inferno, including those who managed to escape in the uprising.<\/p>\r\n
The last survivor of this daring operation died in the city of Petersburg about two months ago.<\/p>\r\n
The exhibition opening event will take place during the memorial ceremony to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which is observed annually on January 27, as designated by the United Nations.<\/p>\r\n
Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his desire to participate in the special ceremony, and informed the museum's founder, the Rabbi of Russia, Rabbi Berel Lazar, that in order to honor the Sabbath, he would attend the event, which would be held on a Sunday, since this year International Holocaust Remembrance Day falls on a Saturday.<\/p>\r\n
The Russian media is reporting extensively on President Putin's expected visit to the ceremony, which was postponed in honor of the Sabbath - a report by the cause of the sanctification of the name of God.<\/p>\r\n
This will not be the Russian president's first visit to the huge Jewish museum, located in the center of the Marina Roshcha neighborhood. He previously attended its opening ceremony, bringing with him the holy books of the Schneerschen Library, which are now in a special department in the museum.<\/p>\r\n
