Let's start from the end.<\/p>\r\n

In a survey I conducted, in which four Knesset members from the ultra-Orthodox parties were randomly selected for the purpose of a socio-political experiment, the winner was - by and large - the chairman of the Knesset Education Committee, MK Yaakov Margi of Shas.<\/p>\r\n

\""It turned out well," Margi responded when I told him about the experiment and its results. "It will inspire all of us to help more and more people.".<\/p>\r\n

Actually, you're right.<\/p>\r\n

The father of the idea behind the experiment is Health Minister Yaakov Litzman, who surprised everyone by publishing a list of his aides, including their personal cell phone numbers, for each case. Diligent journalists rushed to try - and were also granted permission.<\/p>\r\n

Since then, I have turned to his assistants many times to ask for help for sick or healthy people who needed some kind of assistance. Each time, I was answered immediately, with a satisfactory result.<\/p>\r\n

Then Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri arrived, and picked up the same gauntlet. He published a detailed list of MKs, heads of bureaus and assistants, along with phone numbers, and a call for the public to contact them when necessary. The MKs, it must be said, included only bureau numbers, while the assistants included their personal numbers.<\/p>\r\n

Haredim 10 published an initial attempt that Eliezer HaYun made that very day, who contacted several of the assistants and was partially answered. Later, in the column I published, I conducted a specific experiment with MK Yigal Guetta, who was the only one who released his personal cell phone number. I tried - and I was also answered.<\/p>\r\n

Today's attempt was just the continuation. And Margi's victory qualified him tenfold over all his predecessors.<\/p>\r\n

And what happened, happened...<\/p>\r\n

2.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Yesterday, around 3:00 PM, I stopped for a cup of coffee at the Knesset's dairy buffet.<\/p>\r\n

The lack of space there led me to sit around the table of a nice lady, who made room for a chair next to her. She was busy organizing her Facebook page. "I'm trying to dedicate a post to someone, but I can't find the words, you know that?" she asked me.<\/p>\r\n

Well, how do I explain to her that every day I produce hundreds and thousands of words, so that the words have already learned to 'come out' to me? I volunteered to help. Together we drafted a post in which she expressed hope that Naftali Ben-Simon, a former media figure (brother of Daniel Ben-Simon from HaAvoda) and someone who intends to run in the Likud party primaries, will win and also be appointed as one of the Likud members of Knesset in the next Knesset.<\/p>\r\n

\""In the corridors of the Knesset I met a dear man! Naftali Ben Simon. I would love to see him in the next Knesset," wrote the woman, who even released her name: Simona Zini. Then she added, with the hashtag: # One of the successful transitions from the media to the Knesset...<\/p>\r\n

She got 120 likes on the post.<\/p>\r\n

But that was just the trailer.<\/p>\r\n

3.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Once we became friends, she began to tell her personal story, which, I must admit, is touching.<\/p>\r\n

It turns out that she has been a widow for several years, lives alone with her four children, and somehow manages on her meager income. She knows Likud from her parents' house, and it is "in her blood." She has a lot of political plans, related to her city of residence, Hadera, but what is disturbing her peace of mind these days most of all is the fact that the Amidar company, whose apartment she has been renting for years, has increased the rent in recent months. It is not entirely clear why.<\/p>\r\n

I don't really understand how a woman affiliated with the Likud can't sort things out for herself and get help from ministers (welfare, transportation, whatnot). But I didn't come to fix the Likud, and I was content to listen at first.<\/p>\r\n

Without any connection to my profession as a journalist or the need to write a column after a Monday in the Knesset, I began to feel what happens to me quite a few times: an emotion that is creeping inside me and taking over all rational thought.<\/p>\r\n

The United Torah Judaism faction has already started a meeting of MKs with the directors of the housing associations against the Haredi district in the Housing Ministry, which means that coffee time is over and I have to get up - and just go. There was also a faction meeting in Shas and I wanted to feel the pulse. But I couldn't get up. I have to help this woman, whom God brought together so unexpectedly, the realization hit me, destroying any thought of a planned agenda.<\/p>\r\n

So what do we do? That is, assuming that the Likudniks are not really interested in her problem, what else can be done?<\/p>\r\n

4.\u2022<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Then the idea struck.<\/p>\r\n

I pulled out my notebook and pen, drafted a proposal, and explained the idea to her. We are going to 'fall' on four Haredi MKs, two from Shas, two from United Torah Judaism. You send the same proposal to all four of them - and ask for help. Let's see who picks up the gauntlet. Whoever helps you first will win the Tzelsh.<\/p>\r\n

She looked at me in amazement. I'm not sure she was enthusiastic from the first moment, but to her credit, even if the idea seemed crazy to her, she flowed with it naturally.<\/p>\r\n

Just remember, we didn't know each other until the moment I sat down next to her. She didn't even know who I was, where I came from, or what I did.<\/p>\r\n

But when you're desperate, when everyone else turns their backs, you're happy to take the hand of anyone who's willing to help you. It's sad, but that's the reality.<\/p>\r\n

I am a widow, live in an Amidar apartment, I have problems with them, I am in the Knesset, I would love to meet with Maklev," was the text addressed to Uncle Saltz, a former assistant to Yaakov Asher, when he served as a Knesset member, and who has been working for MK Uri Maklev in recent weeks.<\/p>\r\n

I didn't really think MKs had time to meet with 'ordinary' citizens from time to time; I wasn't really sure that's what an MK's assistant was supposed to do - answer a request from someone she didn't know who just happened to be in the Knesset and was asking for assistance.\u00a0But I decided that once and for all - we must try it.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

I am in the Knesset, I would be happy to meet with you," was the text dedicated to MK Yigal Guetta.<\/p>\r\n

A bit cheeky wording. But an experiment, as we said.<\/p>\r\n

5.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

We parted amicably, leaving her my phone number. Call me in about two hours, let me know who responded, how quickly, and how they responded, I told her.<\/p>\r\n

For the sake of full disclosure: the whole story has faded from my memory. Monday in the Knesset, with all the discussions and meetings, sucked me into it like a storm. I didn't really remember Simona and I didn't really think I was able to help her. Here's how it is: 120 MKs are roaming the halls of the Knesset, dozens of them in ministerial positions. But it's better not to need them. Not all of them are there to help.<\/p>\r\n

Then came her surprising phone call, which managed to surprise me in a way that no phone call has surprised me in a long time.<\/p>\r\n

\""I'm just now leaving Margie's office," says Simona.<\/p>\r\n

What were you doing there? - I'm having trouble understanding.<\/p>\r\n

\""So far they've invested in me," she says.<\/p>\r\n

I begin to realize that I'm about to be surprised, take the notebook out of my bag, and sit down to write down my summaries.<\/p>\r\n

It turns out that the first to respond was "Maklev's uncle," who quickly texted her the office phone number: "026408135." Take care, you might need it someday.<\/p>\r\n

\""I called, they didn't answer, so I did as you told me and reported to him in a repeated message that 'they're not answering.' He quickly replied that he wasn't in the Knesset, and that he had no way of scheduling a meeting from one day to the next.".<\/p>\r\n

Makes sense. Maklev was at the directors' conference at the time, later joined the United Torah Judaism faction meeting, and then the votes in the plenum. It's really hard to demand that a MK accept an unknown lady from the moment he arrives.<\/p>\r\n

Chaim Rabinowitz was the second to respond. He asked her to draft a letter and send it to the bureau so that Eichler could handle it. A logical answer, I must say. I couldn't have expected more than that.<\/p>\r\n

Guetta, from whom I had high hopes, was unfortunately "in France." To his credit, he returned to her and said that he was abroad. I hope for his sake that he took care of adequate compensation.<\/p>\r\n

Up to this point, everything makes so much sense. From here, it's so surprising and incomprehensible.<\/p>\r\n

But we will personally contact everyone who needs it. She couldn't believe what happened to her in the next few hours: two dedicated assistants, Avi Rosen and Nati Chaik (a new and surprisingly good appointment, appointed by Shas Movement Director General Haim Biton for the position of third assistant, when he pulled him straight from the northern ridges - a serious Abrech, a man of action with all his soul - he will surprise in a big way), sitting and simply working for her.<\/p>\r\n

God in heaven is my witness, the two, as well as their boss Yaakov Margi, had no idea that they were also participating in the experiment. They had never seen Simona. All they knew was that she was a widow who had come to the Knesset to help herself and her four children. That, and only that, was all that motivated them.<\/p>\r\n

6.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

So here it is: I don't really know if the letters, which were sent to the very right addresses, will have any effect. Will ministers really wake up from their indifference and want to help five people who need assistance? But I do know that before we disparage our elected officials (worrying about their seats), it is important that we also remember those who have a heart and a lot of good will to treat their role as a mission.<\/p>\r\n

And MK Yaakov Margi, you have a huge nose. I always knew you were an excellent MK, one that Shas should guard with all its might; I always knew you had positive qualities - but last Monday, next to your name, I marked a huge 'V', like I don't remember ever marking next to an elected official.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"I pulled out a notebook and pen, drafted a draft, and explained the idea to her.
