{"id":188921,"date":"2015-07-24T12:29:49","date_gmt":"2015-07-24T09:29:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch10.co.il\/?p=188921"},"modified":"2025-08-07T17:28:03","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T14:28:03","slug":"%d7%a2%d7%a9%d7%95%d7%a8-%d7%9c%d7%92%d7%99%d7%a8%d7%95%d7%a9-%d7%9b%d7%99%d7%a6%d7%93-%d7%a0%d7%94%d7%92%d7%94-%d7%94%d7%a2%d7%99%d7%aa%d7%95%d7%a0%d7%95%d7%aa-%d7%94%d7%97%d7%a8%d7%93%d7%99%d7%aa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ch10.co.il\/en\/news\/188921\/","title":{"rendered":"How did the Haredi press behave during the deportation?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"RTL\"><strong>A.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\"><strong><\/strong>The expulsion of Gush Katif settlers on the day after Tisha B&#039;Av, ten years ago this week, will be remembered and enshrined in Jewish history for the rest of the world, like all other expulsions in which Jews were forced to leave their homes and places of residence, simply because they were Jews.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Today, unlike in the past, there are almost no places in the world where Jews are not allowed to live, including in many Arab countries. Only in the Land of Israel, much to our shame and embarrassment, are there places of &#039;Jewish Reign&#039;, in contrast to the Arabs who can live anywhere they want in the Land of Israel, on both sides of the Green Line.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">And that in itself, the disgrace of the expulsion of Jews from their land in the Land of Israel, by the Israeli government, simply because they were Jews, will be etched in the Jewish consciousness as a world-shame.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\"><strong>\u00a0on.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">There have been quite a few cases throughout history in which population groups have been moved from one place to another, for one reason or another. But for the first time in the history of nations, settlers were expelled from their land solely because of the ruler&#039;s desire to ensure that he would not be put on trial for a crime.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">For over two years, the &#039;knights of the law&#039; guarded the etrog like the apple of their eye. Criminal suspicions that screamed to the heavens, that no decent legal advisor could afford to ignore, were dismissed and silenced, with a thin silence, with the consent of all the watchdogs of the rule of law.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">The sins of the royal family, especially its head, whose color was fiery and echoed in his redness, became white as snow.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Ariel Sharon was very lucky, not having to see how two years after the &#039;disengagement&#039;, when he would no longer be of any use to the guardians of the etrog, they threw him to the dogs, just as they did to his successor, who also kept him as a fancy etrog until the moment the &#039;gathering&#039; plan fell through.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\"><strong>\u00a0third.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">The &#039;disengagement&#039; plan, unlike the Oslo plan, was not done by mistake or in good faith. Not by mistake or blindly. Not by stupidity or naivety. It was done maliciously and with a determined face. From various and varied interests.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">The left and its media, which encouraged and &#039;excited&#039; the Prime Minister to expel thousands of families, did so out of hatred of &#039;settlers&#039;, out of a long-standing morbid identification with the enemy and its desires.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">They did not for a moment delude themselves that any good would come to Israel from the expulsion and displacement. They knew, as the Chief of Staff and security experts warned, that as a result of the surrender and displacement, the enemies would be emboldened and encouraged to fight against us with greater cruelty. They understood this as much as we did, no less.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">But this did not deter them from resolutely carrying out the trampling and uprooting.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\"><a href=\"https:\/\/p8503-170-25285.s170.upress.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Web_F05pullout17.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-188393\" alt=\"\u05d2\u05d5\u05e9 \u05e7\u05d8\u05d9\u05e3\" src=\"https:\/\/p8503-170-25285.s170.upress.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Web_F05pullout17-660x433c.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">They knew very well that among the Palestinian people this terrible day would be remembered as a &#039;historic day&#039; in which it was proven that through terror it was possible to expel the Jews from the Land of Israel. And it came much more than we imagined - the missiles and Qassams - a war in the north and two wars in the south, and from the depths of the earth the blood of the dead cries out to them, the blood shed by the victims of the &#039;disengagement&#039; in the three wars.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">He cries out to everyone. To the initiators and supporters. None of them can say, &quot;Our hands did not shed the blood.&quot;.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">The residents of Israel have become hostages to the missiles and bombs fired at them from the area from which Jews were expelled, and what is amazing is that they continue to sit in their chairs, advise and preach and talk about &#039;continuing a political process&#039;, one way or another, without any of them being brought to justice and without any of them expressing apology or remorse.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\"><strong>D.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">During the riots of the first intifada, a proposal was made by right-wing elements to expel Arabs from particularly problematic villages for a limited period.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">The left did not struggle, did not argue, and did not hesitate. MKs Yossi Sarid and Yair Tzaban announced in a short but decisive article in Yedioth Ahronoth (June 27, 1990): &quot;We speak slowly and clearly, and not only in our own name... so that there will be no misunderstandings between us and that it will not be said that you were not warned in advance. We do not fulfill the transfer order, and neither do our children and our students... The day the transfer order is given... will also be the day the order is refused... For anyone who has wondered what our red line is - here it passes.&quot;.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">The left&#039;s &#039;high priest&#039;, Amos Oz, had a similar message at the time: &quot;This is an impossible idea because we will not give it to you... even if we have to divide the country and the army... even if we have to blow up the bridges... The right needs to know that there are actions that, if it tries to do, it will cause the country to disintegrate...&quot;'<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">When it came to expelling Arabs, the left set a clear line, and immediately. This was done sharply, without internal debate and without hesitation. Israeli society internalized that this was the line.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Who knows, it is very possible that if the Datali and Hardalim had been less &#039;state-minded&#039; (in the above) and more Yossi-Sharidim and Amos-Ozim - it is very possible, and even reasonable to assume, that all the settlers of Gush Katif, with their wives, children, their children and their homes, would be standing tall today, with fame and glory, continuing to flourish and prosper.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">\u00a0the.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">And another important conclusion:<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">What happened to the disengagement prime minister should illustrate to all of us that someone whose hold on the Land of Israel was founded on shaky foundations such as &#039;historical right&#039; and &#039;love of homeland&#039; and similar arguments is not immune from ideological revolutions at an angle of one hundred and eighty degrees, even if in the past he stood at the head of the national camp and carried the flag of settlement in all parts of the Land of Israel.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\"><a href=\"https:\/\/p8503-170-25285.s170.upress.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Web_disengag113.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-175814\" alt=\"\u05d4\u05d4\u05ea\u05e0\u05ea\u05e7\u05d5\u05ea\" src=\"https:\/\/p8503-170-25285.s170.upress.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Web_disengag113-660x437c.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Only those whose loyalty to the Land of Israel stems from the true reason, from the divine promise in the Torah, will be able to move no spirit in the world from their faith and devotion to the Land of Israel.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">In those days of the eve of the expulsion and destruction in Gush Katif, the American media prominently published a comprehensive interview with the leader of the &quot;Christian majority,&quot; which represents over fifty million citizens in the United States.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">When asked about the reason for his firm opposition to the disengagement plan and a Palestinian state, he replied with the utmost simplicity: &quot;After all, we all believe in the Bible, and in the Bible it is explicitly written that God gave the Land of Israel to the people of Israel, so it is simply forbidden to go against God and it is forbidden to take from the people of Israel the land that God gave them.&quot;.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">The American Secretary of Defense at that time, when asked about the &#039;occupied territories&#039;, also responded that as far as he knew, there were &#039;liberated&#039; territories in Israel, not &#039;occupied&#039; territories.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">How shameful and embarrassing that what is so clear to non-Jews was not clear to Israeli prime ministers.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\"><strong>and.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">And a few words to our colleagues, the Haredi media:<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">\"&quot;We, the Torah-observant Haredi public, have no opinion, in principle, on the essential question of whether to leave or not to leave Gush Katif.&quot;.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Sentences in this vein, in a direct and clear style or a meandering style, often appeared in the Haredi press in those days, at least in a certain part of it. That&#039;s it, at best.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">At worst, words like &quot;The struggle against the disengagement plan, whether it is just or not, is not &#039;our&#039; struggle. We are allowed to feel pain in the face of the plight of Jews whom the government plans to send Jewish police and soldiers to expel from their homes, but we,&quot; argued the right-wing thinkers in certain Haredi newspapers, &quot;are in no way part of &#039;their&#039; public or their struggles.&quot;.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Those of you who occasionally also set a lesson in Gemara also added a reason to their position that may sound scholarly: &quot;Remember how a few years ago, when Sharon formed a government with &#039;change&#039;, they joined and we were left outside, hurt to the core, with serious damage to the budgets of Torah institutions? Great, now we&#039;re inside and they won&#039;t ask us to worry about their worries.&quot;.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">These things - even if they sounded like tasteful things to their writers and perhaps to some of their readers - are simply outrageous.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">It is impossible not to be amazed at the very thought that handing over territory to the worst of our enemies and taking further steps in the spirit of the unfortunate Oslo Accords is an issue involving &#039;them&#039; and &#039;us&#039;.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\"><a href=\"https:\/\/p8503-170-25285.s170.upress.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Web_disengag117.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-175815\" alt=\"\u05d4\u05d4\u05ea\u05e0\u05ea\u05e7\u05d5\u05ea\" src=\"https:\/\/p8503-170-25285.s170.upress.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Web_disengag117-660x387c.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">And if the country were more easily conquered by our enemies, mercifully, the vile murderers would distinguish between blood and blood and fall between a shtreimel and a knitted kippah? And can anyone claim that the increase in terror, God forbid, is &#039;their&#039; problem and not &#039;ours&#039;?!<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">This was the darkest hour for quite a few ultra-Orthodox journalists, and it is a shame that even today, ten years later, there are ultra-Orthodox representatives and journalists who have not yet internalized the lesson from the destruction of Gush Katif.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\"><strong>\u00a0G.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">For many Jews, the days surrounding Tisha B&#039;Av have become, over the past ten years, not only a reminder of the destruction and exile in general, but also of the personal &#039;destruction of the home&#039; that has earned the title of &#039;disengagement.&#039;. <b><i><\/i><\/b><\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">They tried to convince us on the eve of the disengagement that we had already drained the poisoned cup of Oslo, and that the longed-for peace was already at hand. We only need to disengage from Gaza and Gush Katif and the longed-for peace and security would shine upon us in all their glory.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">For some reason they forgot that this is exactly what they promised us in the run-up to Oslo.
