The conference will include participation by, among others, Defense Minister Moshe (Bogi) Ya&#039;alon and opposition leader MK Yitzhak Herzog. The conference featured four sessions that examined the government&#039;s decision-making processes, Israeli society&#039;s attitude toward the disengagement and the evacuees, the break in religious Zionism, and media coverage. Education Minister Naftali Bennett spoke at the conference and said: &quot;The basis of the disengagement was three goals: receiving legitimacy from the world, achieving security, and developing Gaza by Palestinians, until they establish a Singapore of the Middle East. And the result was: instead of legitimacy, we received the Goldstone and Shaves reports, turning us into war criminals, instead of security, we received missiles from Gaza at Ben Gurion Airport, instead of Singapore, we received Darfur. &quot;After all, the security debate was over before it even began. The political debate was over before it even began. The media debate was over before it even began. They were not the goal, they were the means. Those who wanted us to do the disengagement also wanted us to withdraw from the Golan Heights. These are the same people. If we had listened to them even then, ISIS would be wading in the Sea of \u200b\u200bGalilee today, at best, and it would be red with blood. &quot;So instead of talking about the disengagement that happened \u2013 I want to talk about how to stop the next disengagement. &quot;I&#039;ll put it simply: the purpose of the disengagement was to stop the rise of elites from the national religious public, who for years had accumulated positions of influence that were legitimate, but dangerous, in the opinion of the left. They felt that someone had changed the laws, but didn&#039;t bother to tell them.&quot; &quot;In recent years, a broad process of elite replacement has been taking place in Israel. The old elites controlled Israel in all relevant systems: until 1977, they also represented the people. Since then, the people have dared to vote the opposite way from the elites, and then a process of the old elites clinging to the horns of the altar began. &quot;This is true of all elites: First, the media elite - it has undergone change in recent years. Not enough, not balanced, but it is in the midst of change. Voices that were once silenced are now being heard: you can see more people from the periphery, with a kippah and even wigs. The new media contributed to this quite a bit: Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp \u2013 media that are unregulated and unedified, and the true spirit of the people can be expressed in them \u2013 and in their wake, the traditional media had to adapt themselves to the new public atmosphere.&quot; &quot;Second, the legal elite \u2013 the same legal system that approved the disengagement, a move that human rights were a thing of the past. A move that harmed the weak, that threw citizens whom the state sent to settle in a region of the country from their homes. A legal system that stopped buses of protesters on the way to a demonstration, that prevented people from protesting, a system that gave legitimacy to a move from which to this day the deportees have yet to recover. &quot;A legal system that ridiculed and trivialized the concept of human rights and showed that human rights are also a matter of geography. Not of ideology. &quot;Third, the academic elite \u2013 the situation in which Israeli lecturers call for a boycott of their own university is cannibalization that only exists in the State of Israel. Strengthening Zionist trends in academia is a necessary process that the State of Israel should not be ashamed of. &quot;And fourth - the cultural elite. In recent weeks alone, we have witnessed a severe attack by artists on elected officials who expressed their opinion - and on the entire people. Beasts, wearing amulets, wearing mezuzahs, coming out of holes, stamping their feet on the periphery. Plays about terrorists who murdered and tortured soldiers received the support of the State of Israel - this has stopped. We are in the process of restoring sanity to culture as well. &quot;But friends, the truth must be told - alongside the processes we see in the media, legal, academic and cultural elites - we are still in danger. The danger lies in the political elite.&quot; The Minister of Education referred to the fact that the Likud was the party that carried out the disengagement: &quot;The danger is the next disengagement. Ten years ago, things became clear to me. In the political sphere too, we need to break through the glass ceiling. In the decisive moments \u2013 the right-wing public and religious Zionism found themselves alone on the roof. This is the truth. It happened, it can happen again. And it always comes as a surprise. The next disengagement can happen at any moment, if for a moment we put our hands back on the steering wheel of the state. If for a moment we turn our heads. &quot;My brothers and sisters, settling down, the people of religious Zionism: On the ruins of Gush Katif, we saw what happens when we disconnect from the people. We saw what happens when we remain right on the Day of Our Mothers, we saw what happens when we close ourselves off. In disengagement, we learned that we must not turn the struggle for the Land of Israel into a struggle of settlers or a struggle of religious people. We learned that it is impossible to connect with the people at the last minute. &quot;And I say it clearly: A party whose foundation is not based on Israel&#039;s heritage but on security arguments alone - can decide one morning that turning away Jews is the right thing. Today it is forbidden to hand over the Golan Heights for security reasons - tomorrow it will seem possible. Today, the Mount of Olives is strategically correct \u2013 tomorrow, God forbid, someone will think that it can be given up on as well. &quot;Security mistakes must not be made, but it is possible, moral mistakes simply cannot be made. Anyone who believes that a people cannot be an occupier in their own land \u2013 will never be able to carry out a disengagement. We can never be allowed to be controlled by the language of political correctness. We cannot be washed away with names: We did not disengage from Gaza. We expelled Jews from Gaza. There were no &quot;pulses&quot; in Oslo. There were withdrawals. The terrorists were not released in &quot;pulses&quot; either. They were released in dangerous liberation deals that must not be repeated again. &quot;The culture of lies that sometimes grips our country makes words a tool for purifying moral vermin. No more. There are only pulses in the heart, withdrawals are not pulses. The palpitations that a Jew feels when his brother expels him from his home \u2013 these are pulses. The gap between ideology and the actions of leaders \u2013 this is a disengagement from their promises. But the action was expulsion. There is no other word.&quot; &quot;I decided after the disengagement that I would no longer remain silent. I understood that even if in a democracy the majority rules, the majority is sometimes wrong. I did not remove the orange ribbon from my heart.
