An Arab cleaning worker from Taiba was sitting there at the time. As soon as Y. sat down in the rest area, the Arab began to shout at him, curse him for being Jewish, spit at him, and threaten him with a stone. When Y. tried to respond verbally, the suspect "went on a rampage," knocked him to the ground with force, and began kicking him all over his body. The attacker then grabbed Y.'s phone, hit it hard on the head, and smashed it to pieces. Y. was taken to Meir Hospital suffering from severe injuries throughout his body, a fractured wrist, and a serious injury to his jaw, which left him in severe pain and severe eating restrictions for months, along with a dramatic deterioration in his mental state. Despite the seriousness of the act, and despite the fact that during his interrogation the attacker explicitly admitted that he had punched the victim in the stomach and legs, the Petah Tikva Police Prosecution Unit chose to close the case on the grounds of "lack of evidence." If that were not enough, as part of the investigation, the helpless Y. was summoned to the station, where he was suddenly questioned with a warning while being completely denied the rights he was entitled to by law due to his disability. Attorney Haim Bleicher of the "Honenu" organization, representing Y., filed an urgent appeal with the Appeals Department at the State Attorney's Office. In the appeal, Attorney Bleicher presented the numerous medical documents, detailed the investigation's shortcomings, and emphasized the clear nationalist motive behind the attack, which occurred in the midst of the "Iron Swords" War and under the influence of Ramadan. Now, two years after the appeal was filed, an official decision has been made by Attorney Nechama Sussman of the Appeals Unit at the State Attorney's Office that the police file will be immediately returned to the Israel Police for re-examination and completion of investigative actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
